Volunteer: Cool Kids Read -- in partnership with The West Bend Library

The Welcome Network is a nonprofit in West Bend that welcomes and supports newcomers with language challenges to the West Bend area.  One of the keys to their success is learning English.  We know that reading books to kids is one of the richest ways we can impart language knowledge.  So, you lend your voice, and love for books to kids whose parents can't read in English to them.

We provide this service in partnership with the West Bend Library.  Parents in bilingual households attend a either Game Night or Crafty Chapter while we provide what we like to call English Language Fluency Workshop -- by simply reading language-rich books to them.

If you can read in English, you are qualified!

The dates are Wednesdays 6/24--7/22--8/26 and Thursdays 6/11--7/9--8/13

Volunteer: Phonics Forward -- One-to-One English Language Support for adults and teens

If you are a native English speaker you are qualified for this role.  We will match you with an English language learner of your same gender and provide a tool (a book or resource) for you to use to engage in "sound and sense" practice with English.  This practice does not replace, it augments traditional ESL classes.

We recommend participating in our training first and then waiting for your match.  However, we like to get you started, so if you can't make the training times in the form, please let us know.  Once contact is secured you can organize the time and place you will meet for your practice.  The goal is to finish the resource.  Then you can make new plans from there.
