Buckthorn is a non-native shrubby tree that can quickly takeover a natural community. Help is needed to battle this invasive species in the Haskell Noyes State Natural Area within the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit. We will meet at the small parking lot off County Road GGG just south of County Road SS near New Prospect. Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt, gloves and hat. To protect against biting bugs, tuck your pants into your socks and bring insect repellant. Remember to bring drinking water and long-handled pruning shears if you have some.

The Leaf Stomp is the largest fundraising event for the Friends of the Kettle Moraine. This non-competitive hike traverses the Ice Age National Scenic Trail through the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit. Participants choose from one of four routes: 5-mile, 10-mile, 15-mile, or 22-mile. The Friends hope to reach their maximum of 700 hikers.

Volunteers are needed to help with early morning registration, refreshment stands, road crossings, cheering on hikers, and the finish line activities.

The Jingle + Sprinnkle event will be a workshop to support community guests in creating memories while decorating sugar cookies! The volunteers that we will need will be supporting the staff by engaging in the following tasks: helping to set up for the event, greeting guests at the registration table, connecting with guests while handing out supplies, helping with clean up, etc. The timeframe will be 4:30-7:30PM.

The Little Chefs event will be a workshop to teach community guests to create a savory & sweet flatbeard. The volunteers that we will need will be supporting the staff by engaging in the following tasks: helping to set up for the event, greeting guests at the registration table, connecting with guests while handing out supplies, helping with clean up, etc. The timeframe will be 5:00-8:00PM. 

Have you ever wanted to help an adopted or foster child but don't know where to begin? Start here, at The Ranch with our Stable Moments mentorship program where you will be paired with one child and one horse for a ground work (non-riding) session one hour per week. Training is provided!

Cedar Springs Therapeutic Ranch is looking for volunteers to help with our Equine assisted therapy sessions throughout the week. To be able to help our clients best therapy consists of an Instructor, a horse lead walker, and two side walkers. Our biggest need currently is for Side-Walkers. Side-walkers walk along the side of the horse during therapy sessions to help maintain balance for the rider. Training will be provided. Lessons run from 3PM-7PM weeknights (except Fridays). The Ranch is a fun place to be!

Cedar Springs Therapeutic Ranch has about 11 acres that we need to take care of and with our busy schedule, we need help! We have riding lawn mower and the tools to do the job, we just need the people generous enough to donate their time to do it. Please reach out today if you are interested!

We serve a multitude of people in our community and one of the families is Spanish speaking with two children in our equine assisted therapy program. We need a translator to come at least once per month, more would be great, on Thursdays from 5-6 PM when the family is here. The instructor and team would like to let the family know how their session went and have conversations as needed. We would also like this person to review our documents that go out to families once we convert them to Spanish.

Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, strengthen communities, and empowers low-income households. The Family Selection & Nurturing Committee’s purpose is to guide selection and assist households pursuing enrollment into Habitat for Humanity’s Homeownership Program.  The committee also serves to support the families through the transition to becoming homeowners. The Family Selection & Nurturing Committee aims to be thorough in its processes and empathetic to the families we reach.

Our committee members are: Empathetic, Non-judgmental, Community focused, able to attend monthly meetings via Zoom or in person, and be comfortable mentoring and interviewing Habitat for Humanity Partner Families.  

The monthly time commitment ranges from 2-4+ hours/month depending on your level of involvement in the committee.   Meetings are typically held on Mondays at 6:00 PM.

We ask for a year of participation if you are accepted.

The Plant & Sip event is a fabulous Give Back event where community guests will be creating two arrangements: one to keep and one to donate.  The volunteers needed for this event will be helping with various tasks, such as greeting and seating guests, handing out supplies, supporting the guests and helping with clean up throughout and at the end of the event. 

Join Big Brothers Big Sisters of Washington County as we learn the basics of chess and participate in a friendly tournament, all in the same day. Blue Lotus is almost fully booked for the summer with groups who serve people with disabilities, seniors, those experiencing economic hardship, and many others who have life challenges. These outings occur seven days a week, during the day and in the evening.

This means we need plenty of volunteers to help ensure our guests have a fun, relaxing and safe experience. Come and enjoy time outdoors with guests who will certainly touch your heart.  If you can help us for even one day, you will make a difference.

Horizon Home Care & Hospice is looking for a few beautiful souls to volunteer at our Kathy Hospice in-patient unit. If you enjoy meeting new people and are interested in providing a helping hand to our lovely nursing staff, then this may be the perfect role for you!

As a Hospice Companion you will be well prepared to serve the needs of our patients and their families. There is extensive training, much of it centered around therapeutic communication with the dying and the grieving. We are certified by Joint Commission and report to the State Board. As required, you should plan on 10-15 hours of orientation, broken out over several sessions and a few days. We will also provide you with training on direct patient care, so you are able to assist our nurses and aides with some essential functions at our hospice in-patient unit. You truly are, and will feel like, a part of the care team at Kathy Hospice.

It should also be noted that our volunteer program is very flexible. Whether you are retired and have lots of extra time on your hands or you're extremely busy yet feel the need to give back to your community, we will make it work for you and your schedule.

It is the mission of the Youth and Family Project to provide supportive services to youth and families, helping them achieve an increased sense of safety hope and belonging. To continue to support families in Washington County, we are looking for energetic and fun-loving individuals to serve on our Fundraising Committee. Our goal is to develop creative fundraisers aligned with our mission that bring families and community together!

Major Tasks of the Fundraising Committee:

Experience in fundraising or event planning is helpful, but not required!

Time Commitment:

Fundraising committee meets virtually, twice per month on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 3:30-4:30 pm. Responsibilities require 1-4 hours of work per week. Attend at least one Youth and Family Project event per year. Committee members are asked to commit to a 2 year term, if possible.

Help community members get to know our nonprofit partners by volunteering at our Taste & Learn, NP Fairs! Each month there will be a variety of nonprofits with similar causes in attendance to share their mission & possibly recruit volunteers. The Volunteer Center will provide snacks & beverages at each station, tote bags for all attendees, and surveys to request feedback.

As a greeter, your task will be to welcome everyone with a smile, and let them know the details of the event. All information will be provided to you and help is always available. 

Each guest will be given a free canvas tote as they are handed their nonprofit check off card; they could use the tote to gather materials that the nonprofits may hand out. 

Remind guests to hand in the check off card after they’ve visited the nonprofits, to be entered into a drawing.

Ask our guests to take a quick, 3/4 question survey after they have spoken with the nonprofits. When it is turned in, they’ll receive a free drip coffee coupon. (survey can be given to them w/ check off card & tote) 

Pens/Pencils and a tote for turning in the check off card and survey will be on the table

You will then hand them all materials and send them on their way!

Citizen Advocates Fusion is a music group for everyone that loves music.

We welcome people of all abilities and all ages to join in whatever way they are able.
Families are encouraged to attend together!

As a Fusion volunteer, you would be an integral part of this all inclusive music group. As a volunteer you will be considered a member of the group, you will also help support other members of the group by helping them learn new songs, learn dances, use the instruments, encourage them and build relationships with them. 

This volunteer opportunity works best for volunteers willing to commit to being a regular part of the group so that you can learn the songs and build relationships, but if you can only attend once, we'd love for you to join us anyways!

Are you interested in helping plant, water or maintain the BEAUTIFUL gardens around the West Bend Community? Roots and Branches oversees gardens on Oak Street, Barton gardens and the garden beds in downtown West Bend. While the growing season has come to a close for 2024, we are actively signing folks up for 2025! If you are interested in learning how YOU can help keep our community blooming, let us know! The time commitment ranges from 12 hours a season to 40 hours depending on your availability and the size of the garden. 

We can't do it without the support of the community!

If you are a native English speaker you are qualified for this role.  We will match you with an English language learner of your same gender and provide a tool (a book or resource) for you to use to engage in "sound and sense" practice with English.  This practice does not replace, it augments traditional ESL classes.  

We recommend participating in our training first and then waiting for your match.  Then, once contact is secured you can organize the time and place you will meet for your practice.  The goal is to finish the resource.  Then you can make new plans from there.

Help clear invasive woody vegetation along the trails so native plants and flowers can thrive while preserving the mounds. Activities include brush cutting and hauling; no experience is necessary. Bring water, bug repellent, sturdy shoes and gloves. Tools will be provided as neces-sary. Poison ivy may be present. Meet at the parking lot at the start time or check in with staff along the trail during the event.  State Park sticker required on all vehicles.

Stay at a campsite at the horse campground and volunteer a few hours per day/about 20 hours per week. Greet and assist campers with information about the property and facilities. Assist in daily campground operations and set an example by being a model camper. Clean campsites, check facilities and assist with light maintenance. Dispense property information and assist with campground programs. Enjoy the company of other campers and make sure that they enjoy their stay. Potential hosts must camp onsite Friday through Sunday with at least one horse.

Provide excellent customer service by orienting visitors to the property and local area, disseminating information and materials related to rules and regulations, program schedules, interpretive resources, facilities, and other recreational opportunities. Assist with guest speakers and school group visits. Assist with inventorying activity packs, educational materials, and supplies. Provide minor interior and exterior facility upkeep and maintenance. Maintain live animal aquarium displays. Manage sales of merchandise.

Receive our newsletter each month and pick and choose what you are interested in and what fits into your schedule. Volunteer one time a month or as often as you wish. Come by yourself , with family or bring a friend. This opportunity is a great way at meeting new people. sharing your talents and giving back to help others. 

The Labyrinth Garden is a 90-foot diameter earth sculpture designed in the tradition of a seven-circuit Cretan labyrinth. It's a beautiful setting for meditation and reflection, lined with  perennials, annuals, herbs, bulbs and ornamental grasses. This garden was built by and continues to be completely maintained by local volunteers.

If you're an experienced gardener (or looking to learn!) you can join our volunteer crew seasonally, from April to October. Our primary needs include adopting a 15 to 30-foot section of garden to visit and maintain weekly. Each plot owner is responsible for weeding, deadheading, and working the soil. We are grateful and blessed for your bingo prizes for our seniors and community.  It's our all-time favorite activity.

Help community members get to know our nonprofit partners by volunteering at our Taste & Learn, NP Fairs! Each month there will be a variety of nonprofits with similar causes in attendance to share their mission & possibly recruit volunteers. The Volunteer Center will provide snacks & beverages at each station, tote bags for all attendees, and surveys to request feedback.

As a multi-purpose helper, you will be a significant asset to us in ensuring smooth flow. You will not be assigned to any specific station, but rather can move from one to another, depending on where help is needed at the moment. 

We’d ask that you help make sure each nonprofit has enough food or beverage samples to hand out to guests. 

You will also help with ensuring a clean environment by picking up loose garbage, etc. 

We’ll ask that you hand a survey to the Nonprofit staff and ask them to turn it in as they leave.

If you notice guests are leaving, kindly ask them to turn in the check off card and guest survey.

Pens/Pencils and a tote for turning in the check off card and survey will be on the table

Additionally, your task will be to help us clean up after the event, whether that be taking down or wiping down tables, rearranging the space, organizing, etc.

The Center is enhancing its services by introducing a new information table in the lobby/reception area.  This table will provie visitors with helpful details about our programs, activities and services. Every animal deserves a clean bed to sleep on and a sanitary dish to eat out of. In this volunteer role you will play a huge and essential support role to our shelter by providing our animals the comfort of these necessities. Duties include washing bowls, washing/folding laundry and washing used litter boxes in the sink. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to help animals from a distance or to ease their way into caring for animals directly!

Help inspire young learners about the great outdoors. Every other week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, homeschool students come from all over southeast Wisconsin to Riveredge Nature Center to learn about science and the environment. Homeschool Assistants are responsible for aiding our education staff in keeping the group together while outdoors, supervising for short periods, helping children with their activities and crafts, and creating a safe, positive environment for children.

Programs typically run anywhere between 90 minutes and 3 hours, with both morning and afternoon options available. We ask that volunteers lead at least three programs each season if available (Fall, Winter, and Spring).

Chix 4 a Cause has a mission of helping to ease the burden of cancer... one Gift of Love at a time. As a volunteer-led organization, we are looking for a special person or persons to help with our Gift of Love program (GOL).

We need an empathetic person to help interview GOL nominees (cancer patients). Ideal volunteers would also help put together Gifts of Love using our supply at the office and complete other tasks for our unique Gifts of Love. Our volunteer would also go along on some of the presentations of the Gifts of Love to the recipients.

Best candidates for this position would be those in current or prior medical professions, cancer survivors or family/friends of cancer survivors/patients, or just those who truly understand the hardships, burdens, and roller-coaster that is a cancer diagnosis.

While the time spent will vary for this position, Chix 4 a Cause typically does between 5 and 9 Gifts of Love per month. This position will have support, training, and appreciation from Chix 4 a Cause staff. Our volunteer would not have to "do it all" for each gift. Presentation of a Gift of Love is usually about one hour. Interviews can vary between 20 minutes and an hour if the cancer fighter would like an understanding ear.

Please reach out if you are considering this position. We are seeking 2 to 3 individuals for this position. All volunteers for this position must pass a background check as they are privy to private information for the cancer patients applying to be a Gift of Love Recipient.

We are excited to introduce a new initiative titled the "Embrace Your Pace Initiative.” For context, the Senior Activity Center's existing Outdoor Adventures Group typically meets at The Hub/Volunteer Center/MOWA Parking Area and explores the Eisenbahn Trail, covering various points of interest, including downtown West Bend, River Walk, Riverside Park, Labyrinth, Regner Park, etc.

Recognizing the challenge of accommodating individuals with varying levels of mobility, Interfaith Caregivers of Washington County and the Center’s team proposed the formation of an entirely new group. This specific Outdoor Adventures Group will be specifically tailored for individuals with canes, walkers, walking aids, wheelchairs (accompanied by a helper), etc. Thus the "Embrace Your Pace Initiative.”

Need:

- We are looking for volunteers to help guide the individuals along the Eisenbahn Trail for a up to a 30-minute walk. 

- Starting point is on the East side of The Hub - near the outdoor sculptures. This is also where there is a public parking lot for additional parking. "Eisenbahn trail parking in West Bend"

- Walks will be held the first Wednesday of the month (Weather permitting) - volunteers can join any month they are able. (June 5, July 3, Aug 7, Sept 4, Oct 2, Nov 6)

- Timeframe: 10-11am. Help gather the participants starting at 10am - prompt walk start at 10:30am. 

- If there are numerous volunteers, you can “buddy up” with a participant for conversation. 

- Participants are welcome to gather at The Hub for coffee and conversation afterwards.

Interact with adoptable cats while providing them with a clean cage. Cleaners commit to one day a week from 8:00 a.m. to noon helping to care for our adoptable cats. Responsibilities include scooping litter boxes, providing fresh food and water, wiping down cat condos, washing dishes, and doing laundry. We are always in need of cat cage/room cleaners, and this is a great way to help with the everyday workings of the shelter!

Lakeshore Community Health Care is looking for a volunteer with a green thumb to tend to the rose bushes and flower beds outside of our clinic. Our plantings are well established, just need some pruning, weeding and general upkeep a few times throughout the year -- typically early spring, mid-summer, and in the fall.

Chix 4 a Cause is looking for an organized individual who can help manage volunteers for our events and office. We would love to have someone join us who can help determine needed tasks, assign tasks to volunteers, track volunteer hours in our online software, communicate with volunteers (via email or phone) and attend our events. Our busiest event, Kickin' & Sippin' is in fall, late September to early October. Kickin' & Sippin' this year is September 30th. The volunteer coordinator would put in about 5 hours per month, more during preparation for our fall event.

WCHS is invited to many community events throughout the year, especially in the summer months. Community Ambassadors attend these events on behalf of WCHS to raise awareness about the shelter, educate the public about WCHS and showcase our many amazing adoptable animals while attending these functions. Volunteers help for a period of 2-4 hours and typically the events are on Saturdays. Volunteers must be over the age of 18 and have a vehicle to be a community ambassador. If you have an outgoing personality and like conversing with new people, this might be just the fit for you!

The Friends of the West Bend Community Memorial Library are a group of people who are passionate about our local library. We are a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that raises funds solely to enhance programs and services offered to all at the Library beyond what government funding provides.

As a Member of our Friends group, you will be helping us develop exciting community events, large group activities, fundraising, special programs, and more. Member will receive monthly updates on ways to serve the Friends.
