Volunteer: Battle Buckthorn Haskell Noyes State Natural Area

Buckthorn is a non-native shrubby tree that can quickly takeover a natural community. Help is needed to battle this invasive species in the Haskell Noyes State Natural Area within the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit. We will meet at the small parking lot off County Road GGG just south of County Road SS near New Prospect. Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt, gloves and hat. To protect against biting bugs, tuck your pants into your socks and bring insect repellant. Remember to bring drinking water and long-handled pruning shears if you have some.

We will meet at the Mauthe Lake Recreation Area boat launch parking lot. Wear long pants, long-sleeved shirt, gloves and hat. Some of the areas are bit low, so waterproof boots would be helpful. Volunteer: Leaf Stomp 2025

The Leaf Stomp is the largest fundraising event for the Friends of the Kettle Moraine. This non-competitive hike traverses the Ice Age National Scenic Trail through the Kettle Moraine State Forest - Northern Unit. Participants choose from one of four routes: 5-mile, 10-mile, 15-mile, or 22-mile. The Friends hope to reach their maximum of 700 hikers.

Volunteers are needed to help with early morning registration, refreshment stands, road crossings, cheering on hikers, and the finish line activities.

Volunteer: Lizard Mound State Park Workdays

Help clear invasive woody vegetation along the trails so native plants and flowers can thrive while preserving the mounds. Activities include brush cutting and hauling; no experience is necessary. Bring water, bug repellent, sturdy shoes and gloves. Tools will be provided as neces-sary. Poison ivy may be present. Meet at the parking lot at the start time or check in with staff along the trail during the event.  State Park sticker required on all vehicles.

Stay at a campsite at the horse campground and volunteer a few hours per day/about 20 hours per week. Greet and assist campers with information about the property and facilities. Assist in daily campground operations and set an example by being a model camper. Clean campsites, check facilities and assist with light maintenance. Dispense property information and assist with campground programs. Enjoy the company of other campers and make sure that they enjoy their stay. Potential hosts must camp onsite Friday through Sunday with at least one horse.
