Who We Are

Mission: To ensure the humane treatment of all animals and place animals in caring homes.

WCHS was originally formed in West Bend in 1960 when 26 people got together to make a difference in the lives of animals in our County.  In 1968, WCHS was incorporated and in 1978 the original shelter opened its doors.  Since that time, WCHS has continued to grow, offering more services and programs to better assist Washington County in saving animal lives as well as educating the community.

What We Do

The Washington County Humane Society protects animals from suffering and cruelty, provides care for animals afflicted by neglect and abandonment, and enhances the lives of animals and people through education, adoption and compassion.

Our volunteer needs cover a vast range of opportunities for people looking to dedicate time to a worthy cause.  We have Adoption Counselors, Cleaners, Cat Socializers (FIP), Dog Walkers, an After School Program designed for kids 14-17, and more!  Volunteers make such an amazing difference here at WCHS and are a vital component in achieving our mission.
