Mission: To empower individuals with disabilities by providing them with opportunities for personal growth, employment, and community integration.
We provide services that promote employability, independence and full community inclusion. The Threshold Incorporated is committed to providing opportunities for all people to be embraced by their community for the unique gifts and abilities that each has to contribute, regardless of differences.
In 1959, a group of parents of children with disabilities along with other concerned citizens, decided that an alternative to institutional care was critically needed in the local community. Using volunteers, “sheltered workshop” services were started. That small beginning lead to The Threshold name in 1963 and in 1968 The Threshold became incorporated under the sponsorship of The Washington County Association for Retarded Children. What started as a part-time program for six adults, now serves more than 650 individuals annually throughout Washington County and surrounding areas.
