We are looking for Middle School and High School youth to hang out with some kids that have disabilities during our Citizen Advocates Respite group. The time is spent playing in the gym, being outside when it is nice out, coloring and board games, crafting, puzzles and just having fun! Pizza is provided for dinner.
We ask that volunteers arrive at 3:30 for a brief orientation. Volunteers are finished shortly after 7pm. The event is held at Silverbrook Middle School.
The Citizen Advocates Respite Group is designed to provide monthly respite for the families/parents of the children with disabilities so that they may enjoy time for themselves; a dinner out, time for errands, rest, etc. In addition to the adult staff, youth volunteers are matched with the students throughout the event. Being matched allows the students more social interaction at the event and provides an opportunity for the youth to learn from each other and build relationships.
The group sits down to eat pizza together. If you are unable to eat pizza, you are welcome to bring something else to eat during that time. We have no access to a refrigerator.
If you sign up and are not able to volunteer please email Jessica at edcawash@gmail.com to let us know as we count on you to be there!
